Sails need protection, why? See above...

Sails need protection i.o. to stay propper and functional. This concerns new and used sails in the same way.

Suitable sails for PRO-2 Sail Regeneration: new, young or old, it does not matter - what ever brand, in Dacron, Laminate or Membrane with textile tafettas

The really breaking thing is, the RED GULL PRO-2 protective chemicals supply the same protectional functions to all sails made of fabrics, aged or new, laminates or dacron..., incl. some other benefits. Sailors and sailmakers in most of the North-European countries found out about it. We service sails for most of the sailmakers in Holland, Germany, and Finland,  just ask them! Swedish and Danish sailmakers are following right now.

About used sails: It's said, they can only be cleaned...

Sofar technical standing is that you can wash sails only. This however causes more problems than you probably ever thought about. Sails get washed when they come into age. Only sails that com into age are nomore resistant to humidity. By washing them only, this is even worsened. Every cleaning damages the fabrics protectional chemicals. In consequence polluting will take place even worse and faster.

Change your mind: Sails can be cleaned and improved!

This is why they should be protected. The RED GULL PRO-2 Sail Regeneration is designed for doing this. In the process the sail gets a new resin treatment added on with chemicals causing a tremendous water repeelence to avoid pollutions being transported by humidity into the sails fabric.

Sails can undergo an Regeneration treatment at any time. The treatment is designed fro sails made of Dacron and sails made of Laminate/Membranes with an textile exterior, called tafetta. Both sails profit in the same way and from the same aspects.

Impact of the PRO-2 Sail Regeneration on Dacron: watch the profile & the leaches, this improves performance

Dacron sails take another proft from the treatment, during the treatment the fabric sets back it's fabrics structure and gains structural tension. This makes the profile of the sail correct towards it's original shape. How much we cannot say, since we hardly ever know the exact oringinal shape. However the difference, between it's actual situation and the one after the PRO-2 Sail Regneration treatment can/will be quite impressive! The structural tension give back the sails crackyness and zizzling, sa if it would be new - almost new!

About new sails

On new sails you can see this effect on high-tech laminate sails, even when they are brand new. RED GULL cooperates with a number of sailmakers, that found out that some of there sails suffer from exactly this item. Those sails are sent to us for a treatment similar to the PRO-2 Sail Regeneration, to obtain an additional protective function.

The best moment for a new protection on an sail in use

Sails that are still in relative good shape, supply the biggest impact by a PRO-2 Sail Regneration treatment. Such sails can easily be tested on the need of a treatment by giving a few drops of water on their surface and see if they get absorbed. Should this be the case, it's time to act. Another Indicator is when your sail starts loosing it's original haptic, when it get's less zizzling when you put it together. The zizzling relates to the still stiff fibres in the fabric and the protective resins arround these. Once the zizzling gets less, the fibres are weakening and the resins fall off. Here the sails hydrophobicity gets damaged - time to act if you want to continue sailing proper and zizzling sails.
